Wonderful Glorious Goop

We did a lab this week in science it was a plasticity lab. We had to find out if the goop was a liquid or a solid. My hypothesis was that If the solution is measured properly we will find out if the goop is a liquid or a solid. The materials we used in this lab were goop and me. At the end of the lab I found out that it is a liquid and a solid. Its a liquid and a solid because when there is not a lot of heat it turns into a liquid. When it gets a lot of heat it turns into a solid. This lab was very fun because we got to pay around with goop and it was all slimy and sticky. Also, I learned that anything has to be a liquid or a solid.

World’s largest lizard is venomous too

Komodo Dragons are very dangerous and can be as heavy as two or three 8th graders. I would have to say that is very big. Also, they can grow up to 10 feet which is very huge. As soon as the Komodo Dragon bites you you will go into shock immediately because you would get a lot of venom in your body that your blood would stop. People say that is the most fiered animal alive. I believe that I is because it is huge and has huge mouth with venom that can kill you instantly. Also, if I came face to face with a Komodo Dragon I would probally just pray and hope that get into heaven because it would outrun you and you would be shocked and not be able to move.

Plasticity Conclution

A few days ago we did a lab in school. The point of the lab was to see how the earths mantle worked. What we did was that we put water in a beaker and then we put cornstarch in the beaker. When those to mix together they make plasticity. Then when you put some body heat on the cornstarch with the water it gets hard(turns into a solid). However, when there was no body heat attracting the cornstarch it wound turn all gooey (turns into a liquid). The whole point of this lab was to see how the earths mantle works. The earths mantle is a solid because it had pressure being pushed against it from the core and the crust. Finally, if the crust and the core weren't pushing against the mantle then the earths mantle would be a liquid. Just like in the plasticity lab.

October Sky

In the movie October Sky there were four friends who wanted to build rockets and make them fly. In this movie there was a science/math connection and a Character Education connection.
The connection for math and science was that they had to read and learn certain math skills to now how rockets function and work.Also, that they had to use equations to prove that the fire that was caused was not by their rocket. Another reason, is that they went to a science fair fair and that has to do with science. Finally, that alot of people that worked in the mines got black lung cancer which means that you have lots of smoke in your lungs and they turn black.
The connection that the movie October Sky has to Character Education is that they used C.A.R.E.S.

• Respect
• Empathy
• Self-Control

They used C.A.R.E.S because when they had to build there rockets they had to work as a group to get the job done. They used respect because they respected one another no matter if they did something wrong or if the did not do anything at all. They used empathy because they understood one another. Finally. they used Self-Control because even if the rocket blew up right in front of them they did not freak out. Also, they were able to control anything. For example, when the four boys got sent to jail they handled it respectfully and responsibly.

Phenylketonuria

In our science class we were assigned a genetic disorder. Then we had to research someone else genetic disorder and I researched my friends disease and it was called Phenylketonuria. Phenylketonuria is the disease that can cause mental retardation. Also, the cell is one enzyme doesn't function properly and cannot separate amino acids. The people with this disease Phenylketonuria are most likely going to be infants. The only way that you are able to treat this disease called Phenylketonuria is going on a huge diet and do not stop your diet. Alos, for you diet you have to cut doent on protien. Signes that show that you have this disease is a skin rash, excessive restlessness, irritable behavior, mosty body order, develop mental retardation"if not on diet", seizures, and lighter skin and hair color. This disease makes me feal sad because little children are suffering alot. If I was a doctor I would not rest until I found a cure.

Patau's Syndrome

Patau's syndrome is a disorder that was discovered in 1960. The effects of this disorder called Patau's syndrome are:

• That you may have one eye

• You will have breathing problems

• ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder)

• Cleft lip

The treatment for this disease is medication, tube feading or a placement of a gostric tube, a hearing aid, and or a vision aid. The life span for this disease is 2.5 days. However, 1 in 20 survive longer then 6 months. This disease is the most least common and the most severe of the visible trisumies. This disease is most likely to happen to Females rather then the Male. However, the Female lives longer. This disease has extra chromosome 13 in the cell or it may be hereditary disorder. Patau's syndrome causes mental retardation and may have one eye and cleff lip. There are miner things that can help this disease. Such as, a diet, ahearing aid, vision aids, and surgery. This disease is very harsh and if I was a doctor I would do what ever I can to help these people with this disease.

Making My Roller Coaster Website

When I was making my roller coaster website I noticed that some of the information had to do with science. For example, we had to write how force was being used, and how Newtons laws were being used. Force was being used because when the marble drops and force pulls it down which makes it go faster. Newtons 1st law are used because the marble will remain at rest until an outside force pulls it down the roller coaster. Newtons 2nd law is used because force mass and acceleration are related. The mass shows how much force must be used. The amount of force can make the marble go faster or slower. Newtons 3rd law is used because when force is pushing the marble down fristion is also slowing it down. So with ever reaction there is an opposite reaction. So when I made my roller coaster website I learned lots of information.

Grunting For Worms

Worms are one of the most useful things to use for catching fish. However, people found a faster quicker way they put iron on a wooden stick and it catches all the worms. People had to have a permit to hunt for earthworms. Which are called Diplocardia mississippiensis. These worms can go up to a foot long. When the hunters worm grunt the vibration is caused by moles which eat the earthworms. Also, the worms are afraid of moles so when it vibrates the worms think that is the mole so they come to the surface which lets the earthworm hunters catch there worms.

Couple kills the boys parents

A couple help each other and kill the boyfriends parents. The girlfriend Nicole Taylor is charged for helping Michael A. Maltese kill both of his parents. The couple buried his parents bodies in Beech Woods Park in South Brunswick. After they killed his parents Michael bought Nicole anything she wanted he bough an engagement ring and clothing. This couple was sent to the Middlesex county jail.

Roller Coater Project

What we were assigned to do, was to create a roller coaster that had three loops and to use Newtons laws to find out how to make it. What my group did was we started off with a big hill and the hill went down and into a tunnel and then turned and went down into a tube and true the egg carton and into a cup. how we got this to work was we used Newtons laws. We used Newtons laws because it would show us how to make the hills and what kind of friction we used. Making my roller coaster was really fun and a good way to explain Newtons Laws.

A Bridge Attack

Taliban militants blew up a highway bridge in the Khyber Pass region. The bridge was 30 yards long and was located 15 miles northwest of Peshawar. Pakistani officials sent many people to work on the bridge. A spokesman for NATO forces in Afghanistan, Lt. Cmdr. Chris Hall, said the bridge attack was not expected to hurt NATO supplies. After this incident happened many truck drivers refused to make the trips as they became more dangerous. Right now they are looking for new supplies routes so they can get there food and supplies to were it needs to be.

Colorado Teen Missing

About 25 years ago a young girl from Idaho Springs, Beth Miller, went out jogging and never returned home. It is believed that she was abducted, but police could not find out who abducted her. One person they suspect is a man from New Mexico, Edward Apodaca. But the police don't have absolute evidence against him. This case is still opened and unsolved. The police are asking anyone with information to contact their local law enforcement agency.

The Inauguration Of Barack Obama

The Inauguration of 2009 was held in Washington D.C. President Barack Obama was being Inaugurated. This Inauguration was very unique because Barack Obama was the first African American President Of the United States Of America. The Inauguration Is when the President who won the election is becoming the President Of the United States.
In my first article it was saying how he messed up the oath of office. During the Inauguration Barack Obama's speech was 20 minutes long. Also, later on in the ceremony Barack Obama made note to the wars in Iraq and in Afghanistan. Obama used strong language in pledging to confront terrorism, nuclear proliferation and other threats from abroad. He said"you cannot outlast us, and we will defeat you.” I think this means not beat them like kill them but destroying all of the terrorism, and bombings.
In my second article it says what Obama is going to do for the world. In some states Obama renewed claim to foreign leadership. There has been high level calls that Mr. Obama accept that America’s days as the dominant superpower are over. “Obviously, there is a risk that we will expect too much of this president — that we will learn that however hugely talented he is, he isn’t a global miracle worker.” I think that the guy that said this meant that what we now of Obama isn't always going to help us when we need it.
The Inauguration to me means that when a new President is elected that they a ceremony and get to speak to the world what they are going to do to the world. Also, that they are respected for becoming the President of the United States Of America. I believe that Barack Obama is going to do a lot for our country. For instance, he is going to lower the taxes for people who make less money and raise taxes for people who make more money. So I believe that what I now of Obama is going to helps alot in this country at this time.

Elephants In Zoo's And In The Wild

When elephants are put into zoo's they suffer more difficult life then living in the wild. When elephants are in zoo's there behavior changes, joint problems, and develop diseases. Also, female African elephants born in zoo's live an average of 16.9 years, and female African elephants that are born and raised in the wild live up to 56 years. People say that stress and obesity are the blame for elephants dieing earlier then they do in the wild, because elephants in zoo's do not get the same amount of exercise as they do in the wild. So as you see elephants are better off living in the wild.
